Mana Hā: A Hawaiian Deep Breathing Practice

Mana Hā, or "power breath," is a Hawaiian deep breathing technique that fosters a profound connection to the life force within and around you. This practice can promote healing and enhance your sense of well-being.

Here are the steps to practice Mana Hā:

Step 1: Find a Comfortable and Grounding Space

Choose a comfortable and peaceful location to begin your practice. Whenever possible, select an outdoor setting or a spot near an open window to connect with natural elements. If outdoors, consider grounding yourself by placing your bare feet directly on the earth. Face towards the sun, even if it's veiled by clouds, to acknowledge its life-giving energy.

Step 2: Set Your Intention

Before you begin the breathing exercise, clearly define your intention. This intention can be for personal healing and well-being, for the vitality of the planet, or for the collective harmony of humanity. Embrace an intention that resonates deeply with you and feels larger than your individual self.

Step 3: Begin the Breath Cycle

  1. Inhale: Take a slow, deep inhale, drawing in as much breath as you comfortably can. Hold this breath for a few sacred seconds, allowing the energy to accumulate.
  2. Exhale (Part 1 - "Ea"): Slowly exhale while consciously repeating the sound "Ea" (pronounced "ay-yah") for 2-3 seconds. "Ea" embodies meanings such as life, breath, or rise up.
  3. Exhale (Part 2 - "Eo"): Immediately follow the "Ea" with "Eo" (pronounced "ay-oh"). "Eo" is a resonant "yes, here I am," serving as a heartfelt response to the universe and your stated intention.

Continue this transformative breathing process for as long as it feels right and beneficial to you. Allow yourself to fully integrate the powerful connection to your initial intention and carry its empowering essence with you throughout your day.
